THE NORTH West Ambulance Service have urged people to only call 999 in an emergency after they received phone calls for concerns such as sun burn and a cut toe.
They explained that these minor injuries do not require emergency care and could be dealt with at home or by visiting a pharmacy.
Stating that the service was under 'exceptional demand', they've warned the public that calls for minor concerns can block the lines and put people's lives at risk.
The NWAS said on Twitter: "Last week we received calls for sunburn, toothaches, and a cut toe.
"These minor health concerns could all be treated with self-care or a trip to a pharmacy.
"Talk about ways to fail.
"As our teams continue to work hard under exceptional demand, please ask yourself do you really need our help.
"We are here for those whose lives are at risk or those who are seriously ill or injured; please don't block the lines for the people who need us most."
