A WOMAN's support group in Breightmet is hoping that its return can help bolster confidence for women in the community.

Breightmet Butterflies has returned to hosting sessions in the community, aimed at helping support women in all aspects of life, providing an ear to listen to.

And the group has said that it is excited by the return of the group, having missed the intimacy and personal touches that online meetings have lacked.

Tracy Hindley, the community involvement manager for the group, said: "The group is for women can be a little - and I hate the word - vulnerable, but not even just that. It helps build confidence in women and support them to do that.

"We do wellbeing exercises and confidence building - things like that. If women want to talk about an issue in their lives, spend time with others or just have a chat, they are more than welcome to come.

"We have not been able to run this group or any of the others that we do run - we miss face to face and the people who come down."

The group is part of thevideobox, a community arts organisation which also runs children and seniors social clubs.

Something that the group helps women deal with is domestic abuse , which has increased during the lockdown periods, as people spent more time indoors.

Greater Manchester Police has encouraged those suffering at home to come forward, amid rises in cases due to the lockdown.

Calls to helplines surged at times, with the Breightmet Butterflies group eager to help women who seek assistance.

Tracy added: "We have numbers and information for people who come to our groups if they need them. We are there to build confidence but we can help if they do want to report any violence.

"Domestic violence is not something we deal solely with, but we do want to help women where we can. During lockdown, a lot of women have struggled, and we want to help them build their confidence back up."

The Breightmet Butterflies women's group takes place 10-12 at St James' Parish Church.
