A FEW weeks ago in Looking Back we featured some photographs from Bolton Market Hall.
They certainly struck a chord with readers and we had a number of requests to run some more pictures from what was Bolton’s original one-stop shopping centre.
The market hall was where, it seems, the whole town would go to do its shopping. The amount of choice available in its heyday was astonishing - you name it, it’s likely one of the stalls would stock it.
All the photographs we are featuring today come from the 1970s. Many of them were taken fro advertising features which appeared in the Bolton Evening News, usually over holiday periods, as stall holders and the market manager got together to increase customer spending at crucial times of the year.
So take a trip back in time and see how many of the stalls from that era you recognise.
