It was number one for 'needs being met', with 81 per cent of those who filled in the survey said they felt the treatment was right.

Dr Dakshina-Murthi told The Bolton News: "In the last 12 months we have had to work differently and see patients differently.

"GP surgeries have always been open and we have seen patients in the surgery but we have also seen patients remotely.

"This is for patients' safety.

"Patients seem to have taken to it and some prefer it because they can talk to someone the same day and not have to to take time of work.

"The team here has worked through the pandemic, and our nurse has especially has continued to see patients because they need to be seen, we have put extra precautions in."

He added that GPs across Bolton continue to meet regularly, albeit remotely, to share best practice and improve primary care in Bolton.

Edgworth Medical Centre scored the best for giving patients enough time, with 77 per cent of patients who took part in the survey rating that category as very good.

The Oaks Family Practice was number one for its caring approach with 78 per cent of its patients rating it very good.

And 85 per cent of patients said they had confidence in the healthcare professionals at Halliwell Surgery 2 and Edgworth Medical Centre the highest percentage scored in this category.

Dr Nikki Kanani, GP and NHS national medical director for primary care, said it had been an “incredibly challenging year for everyone” so it was good to see that overall trust and satisfaction with general practice had increased.

She added: “Feedback from patients is really important and we use it to see how services can develop and improve, and we would urge all those who delayed seeking advice in the last year to come forward, as the NHS is still here for you.”
