A MAN has died in hospital after crashing into a tree on Friday morning.

Emergency services were called to Boot Lane, just off Old Kiln Lane, shortly before 11.30am on July 30 to reports that a car had collided with a tree.

A police cordon remained in place and the road was closed for several hours, according to eyewitnesses.

The driver, a man in his 70s, was rushed to hospital by paramedics. Despite the efforts of medical teams, he died the following day on July 31.

Three fire crews, a technical response unit, police and ambulance were all required to attend the scene.

Officers say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to Boot Lane, Bolton, at about 11.20am on July 30 to reports of a road traffic collision where a car crashed into a tree.

"A man in his 70s was treated at the scene and taken by ambulance to hospital where he died from his injuries on July 31."

One eyewitness said that a "hatch car had ploughed into a tree", and that a helicopter could be heard overhead also.

A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "At 11.28am on Friday July 30, fire engines from Bolton North, Bolton Central and Horwich stations, along with the Technical Response Unit attended a road traffic collision on Old Kiln Lane, Bolton.

"Police and ambulance had freed one casualty before our arrival. Firefighters made the scene safe and the casualty was conveyed to hospital by ambulance. Fire crews were in attendance for approximately two hours."
