A WOMAN was left flabbergasted after she caught her takeaway delivery driver red-handed eating her order from a popular website.

The customer ordered a McSpicy Meal with a frozen strawberry milkshake, double cheeseburger and fries from McDonald’s via Just Eat at around midnight on August 1.

She received a notification to say that her meal had been delivered to her home successfully, which it had not.

So she used the app to track the driver and saw that he was stationary on Princes Street, Blackburn.

She set off walking to find the driver tucking into her £10 meal that he had been tasked with delivering, with a woman beside him in the passenger seat.

She said: “I went on the app’s tracking and saw he was on my road but not moving in the car park.

“I walked down the road and there he was, tucking into my food with some woman in the passenger seat. I think he realised that he was eating my food because he sped off when he saw me. I paid good money for that meal and to have it eaten by the driver is just so annoying.

To make matters worse, the woman, who asked not to be named, said she has been refused a refund.

She said: “I know it doesn’t really sound like a big deal but I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.

“The worst thing about all this is that Just Eat now won’t give me a refund, because they’re saying I’ve had one in the past. I don’t see how that matters?

“The point is, I spent £10 and got nothing in return. I’m entitled to my money back and they are just refusing.

“I get that there are bigger issues in the world right now but I’ve been to hell and back over this. I just want my money back.”

A Just Eat spokesperson said: “At Just Eat, we want all of our customers to have a positive experience when ordering food online and expect all couriers delivering on our behalf to act respectfully and responsibly at all times. We are currently investigating what happened here and will be in touch with the customer.”

The online food and delivery service said that most delivery drivers delivering food to customers’ doors are employed directly by independent restaurants.

However, they do engage with third party courier companies and self-employed independent contractors to deliver on behalf of restaurants.

Just Eat promise that they are investigating this incident and that if they find the courier acted in a way that does not uphold the standards they hope to deliver, they will take ‘appropriate action’.
