SCOUTS in Bolton are on the lookout for a new manager, after the position became vacant in July, to oversee and lead a team of adult volunteers.

The role is flexible and requires a person with strong managerial skills and the ability to work closely with a team of young people.

Colin Hough, District Secretary for Bolton Moorlands Scouts, said: “We will miss the incumbent, Paul Mather, for his skills and experiences, he really brought together the whole district.

"What we need now is a people person who can get on with things with a smile, who can forge a vision for a way forward for Bolton District Scouts.

“I’m so proud to be part of this organisation, I love to see the camaraderie, and watching young people develop social skills and practical skills.

“We have some great people in the Scouts, such as Bear Grylls and the Duchess of Cambridge, who show that high profile people want to be involved with us.”

It is a fixed five-year term on a voluntary basis and the ideal candidate will be responsible for recruiting new scouts and new leaders across the area and other districts, organising camps and events, planning meetings and becoming part of a wide network of other scout leaders from across several districts and counties.

Bear, who has been the UK’s Chief Scout since 2009, said: “One of my big missions is the encourage people across the UK who have the enthusiasm and ability to put something back into their communities.

“That’s why I am so pleased the Duchess of Cambridge, who is an incredible inspiration to young people and adults, has demonstrated that busy lives are not a barrier to volunteering.”

Benefits of the position will include CV enhancement, leadership skills and improved prospects for future managerial positions.
