YESTERDAY we reported how security fencing has been installed at one of Bolton’s outstanding schools after staff and pupils were put at risk by off-road bikers coming on to the grounds.

Canon Slade School in Bradshaw has be given a slice of £434million from the Government’s condition improvement fund to improve safeguarding and reduce anti-social behaviour last year.

But our readers have reacted to the news.

common sense is not here said: "Isn't it sad when people don't respect other peoples property? I don't blame the school for doing this."

Willowdale said: "Too many young ones today are not happy unless they are destroying something. They are untouchable by the law and their parents have failed in their role and do not care. Sadly this will continue until adequate punishments are in place. This area has now been fenced off, so they will simply go elsewhere and cause damage."

Red September said: "It's an age old problem, not just recent. I remember in the 70s and 80s schools being vandalised also."

Willowdale added: "Agree to a small extent, I was at school in the 60's and 70's. A big difference though, was that if they were caught they were punished and most (not all) of their parents would have had a feeling of guilt and embarrassment."

Paul Edwards said: "Bring back national service."

Loubey13 said: "Very disappointed that the fields have been fenced off. Understand problem with the vandals and irresponsible offroaders but whole community denied pleasure of walking and playing on this fabulous greenspace. Will be saddened to see further damage in the woodland now too. More policing would have helped but understand resources are stretched. Less and less space available for people to access especially as plans to sell off and build on other greenspace in the local area."
