RESIDENTS are in shock after a 36-year-old man died following an 'assault' in a Bolton-bar in the early hours of this morning.

Officers were called at about 1.30am on September 2 to reports a man was unconscious in a bar, understood to be Luxe Lounge, on Bradshawgate in the town centre.

It is believed the 36-year-old victim had been assaulted and was treated by police officers and paramedics at the scene.

He was then taken to hospital, where he later died. His next of kin have been informed.

Passers-by and workers on Bradshawgate in the town centre are shocked at the events that took place last night.

Mum-of-two Victoria Aitken, from Little Lever, said: "My son and daughter both come out drinking with their friends here from time to time.

"To think something like this happened when someone was probably just out having a good time with friends is just awful."

Rob Andrews, 55, said outside The Dragonfly pub: "I know this area sometimes has a bit of a reputation but it doesn't stop you from being shocked after what's happened. I hope the police get to the bottom of what happened. How awful for the man's family."

A worker at a nearby kebab shop, who asked not to be named, said: "I wasn't working last night but my colleague was and he didn't know anything had happened. I can't believe something like this happened."
