NORTHERN Monkey will host one of the country's top touring jazz quintets tomorrow night
Former Canon Slade pupil, jazz pianist and composer Jamil Sheriff approached Bolton-based arts organisation, Live From Worktown after they suddenly left without a gig.
Dave Morgan, who was at the Northern Monkey when the message came through. He had a quick word with the manager and another gig was booked.
The Lukas Oravec and Alex Garnett Quintet will perform at 8pm.
The band is a set of internationally renowned award-winning musicians who play up-beat progressive jazz across the UK.
Live from Worktown has worked with Jamil on a number of projects particularly his suite Rafe’s Dilemma based on ‘Spring and Port Wine’ and commissioned for the 2018 Bill Naughton Festival.
Dave said:"This was too big an opportunity to miss. Lukas is one of Central Europe’s leading jazz trumpeters. Tenor Sax man Alex has been a regular host at Ronnie Scott’s Soho Club for many years supporting acts as diverse as Wynton Marsalis and the Rolling Stones. And, of course, it’s always a pleasure working with Jamil."
The band will play two 45minute sets and the event is free. Seating is first come, first served.
