A MAN accused of murdering dad-of-two Robert Smethurst has appeared in court.

Robert Owen Greenhalgh, 31, appeared at Salford Magistrates Court this morning, Saturday, September 4.

Wearing a grey tracksuit, he spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth.

Greenhalgh, charged with murder, was remanded in custody and will appear at Manchester Crown Court on Tuesday, September 7.

Mr Smethurst, 36, was found unconscious in the Luxe Lounge bar and nightclub in Bradshawgate in Bolton town centre in the early hours of Thursday.

He was treated by police and paramedics at the scene but died a short time later in hospital.

Tributes have been pouring in to Mr Smethurst today from friends and family.

His wife Amanda said: "My husband and father to our two beautiful angels was the most loving, selfless and supportive man."Our family and friends have been utterly destroyed by his loss."
