A FORMER Boltonian has created a large slipware charger in response to the racist attacks that the England football team received during the Euro 2020 final.

Hannah McAndrew, who used to live in Little Lever and Morris Green before moving to Scotland, has been interested in slipware for over 20 years and decided to create the ‘This is England’ charger in support of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka, who received racist abuse when they missed their final penalties.

At first Hannah was going to sell the plate at a large pottery festival in Penrith but instead decided she should raise money for the charity, FareShare, who fight hunger and tackle food waste across the UK.

She said: “I was upset about the racism that the team received and still do receive when they bow on one knee. People are still booing them.

“I could have sold the plate in Penrith but I felt like I should do something more than keep the money for my income. I decided to put it out into the wider world and to get money for charity.”

Hannah is running a Crowdfunder page to raise money for FareShare as she knows Marcus Rashford is an ambassador and is championing the fight against food poverty.

Hannah is not a football fan but was taken by the conduct of the England team.

She said: “They have taken a very clear and united stand against racism both on and off the field.

“From what I can see, football teams have a huge influence with their supporters, so using their privileged position to send out this powerful message of tolerance and inclusion to fans of all ages can only be a good thing.”

The charger follows tradition with influences from Thomas Toft in the late 17th century.

The fundraising page so far has raised more than £4,000 and will close on September 23.

For every person who enters, they will be added to a random name generator and Hannah will announce the winner who will receive the Three Lions ‘This is England’ charger.
