A NEW park and ride scheme for Bromley Cross station will be given a £200,000 contribution by Bolton Council, say rail chiefs.

The Bolton New revealed last week the Lidl store for the village, which includes a 91-space commuter car park, had been given the go ahead by planning chiefs.

In a report to the Greater Manchester Combined Authority's rail committee, rail boss Simon Elliott said that the project will proceed with "the remaining capital funding being met by the broader development".

The Transport for Greater Manchester head of rail programme added: "Bolton Council officers are currently working with the developers to finalise drainage designs at the site."

The wider Lidl development, at the former Holland Garden Centre site, also includes 43 retirement apartments and four football pitches.

Another park and ride scheme, for around 100 spaces, is also being progressed at Walkden, on the site of an old council depot off Chestnut Avenue, to be funded through the Local Growth Deal.

Mr Elliott added: "Full planning permission has been granted and the detailed construction drawing are being finalised.

"It is anticipated that the main construction works for the scheme will be issued for tender by the end of 2021 with an anticipated start on site date of early 2022, subject to securing all the necessary powers and consents."
