A BOLTON MP has attended the "world's biggest coffee morning" to launch a new cancer nurse campaign.

Yasmin Qureshi, MP for Bolton South West, was one of over 200 Members of Parliament to join the event at Westminster on September 8.

The coffee morning, organised by MacMillan Cancer Support, used the opportunity to launch the charity's new report “Cancer Nursing on the line”, which calls for a Cancer Nurse Fund to invest in training the next generation.

Ms Qureshi said: "It was a pleasure to attend MacMillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning and hear from professionals about the impacts facing cancer nursing and the pressures facing healthcare funding in the United Kingdom.”

“As many will know healthcare is one of my main policy focuses and I am deeply concerned by the report, it is high time the government set about addressing this crisis once and for all.”

Ms Qureshi also met with nurses at the event.

According to the charity, the numbers of cancer nurses will need to double by 2030 to ensure that people living with cancer get the support they need.

However, Macmillan’s report highlights that the cancer nurse crisis has now left more than half a million people with cancer in the UK without support.
