Members of the public helped police recover a stolen motorbike in Farnworth today.

Residents around Dixon Green Drive in Farnworth flagged down traffic officers after they spotted a group of youths trying to jump start a motorbike.

When the group spotted officers they abandoned the bike, which police then discovered had been stolen from Bolton on September 9.

However, while police were waiting for the bike to be recovered a large rock was thrown at them.

A GMP Traffic spokesman said: "Officers were flagged down by members of the public regarding a group of youths who were trying to jump start a motorbike on Dixon Green Drive, Farnworth.

"They abandoned the bike and made off. Found to be a stolen from September 9 from Bolton.

"And whilst waiting for recovery of the stolen motorbike it seems a local male spotted officers and decided to throw a rock at the police car. I think they must've met previously! Minor damage caused."
