A MAJOR road was closed this afternoon after a two vehicle rush hour crash.

Emergency services were called to Manchester Road in Westhoughton, and police shut off the road between Bolton Road and the Chequerbent roundabout.

The smash happened at 4pm.

The road reopened at around 5.30pm.

The crash caused major delays in the area, with some still being experienced now.

Queues stretched back to Haslam Park Primary School on Wigan Road.

All lanes have now been re-opened but motorists are being warned of heavy traffic in the area.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Officers were called to Manchester Road, Bolton, at around 4pm today (20 September 2021) to a report of a collision involving two vehicles. Emergency services attended and there were no injuries. The road has since reopened."
