GEORGE Thomason is enjoying life under Ian Evatt and insists Wanderers’ style of play is a natural fit for his own attributes.

Thomason – who joined the Whites back in January 2020 from Longridge Town – spent time on loan at Bamber Bridge last season.

After returning to the UniBol, the midfielder became an integral part of the first-team squad as the Whites won promotion from League Two.

Thomason says there is a strong bond in the Bolton dressing room and praised the coaching staff for their man management.

Speaking after the recent reserve fixture Accrington Stanley, he said: “(Evatt) is brilliant. I can’t sing his praises highly enough really.

“He suits my game to a tee - passing the ball around, cutting teams open, scoring lots of goals. It’s an enjoyable, fun place to come in and work every day.

“I think the culture that’s been set around the place from the manager, from Pete (Atherton), from Hirdy (Sam Hird) - everyone has got a togetherness.

“Everyone is willing to put in the hard yards for each other and we all want to do well and win things.

“If we have to keep sharp in the Central League to get an opportunity on a Saturday, then everyone is happy to do that.”

Wanderers have made a positive start to life back in the third tier and currently sit in eighth place in the league table.

After Saturday’s clash with Rotherham United, manager Paul Warne said he thinks the Whites will achieve a top-six finish this term.

Thomason is also optimistic about the side’s chances for the season ahead but insists there is still lots of hard work to do.

“I think everyone knows that we’ve got a really strong squad now and we’re going to be pushing up to the top of League One this season,” he added.

“There are no hand-outs in the team and no one has a guaranteed starting spot, so when you play you have to give it your all and when the opportunity comes you’ve got to try and keep the shirt.”

Wanderers are back in action on Saturday afternoon when they head to the Stadium of Light to take on Sunderland (KO 3pm).
