NHS worker returns from a night out at the theatre to find car vandalised

Michelle Stewart, an NHS worker, had been out at the theatre with her husband and friend, parking her car on Le Mans Crescent, near to the former magistrates court.

The three returned to find the car vandalised on Saturday night.

The 2008 Citroen C1 had its windscreen and windows completely smashed, the roof damaged and the doors dented and says Michelle the insurance company has declared the car a write off.

Michelle is heartbroken that someone would do this.

She said: “It’s absolutely terrible. We left the Octagon Theatre at 10:30pm and only saw a couple of cars parked around the town hall. When we got back to my car, I noticed that the whole car was smashed in.

“I contacted the police but they didn’t come out and neither did the Green Flag.

"I was just given a call reference number and we just had to get the car home ourselves.

“Since then the car has been made a write off by the insurance company and it’s been very upsetting.

“It’s been awful. We had a lovely night out at the theatre and came back to this.

"This has never happened to me before and I’m just hoping they find out who did it.”

Michelle doesn’t think it was a targeted attack as another car in the area was also damaged.

She said: “It wasn’t personal because another car was damaged too but I just don’t understand why somebody would do this.”

The police are now investigating the incident and have assigned officers to look at the CCTV footage from around the area.

Michelle says she was told two lads were spotted in the area with a brick smashing up two cars.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: “The incident was reported just after 10pm and enquiries are currently ongoing.”

Although Michelle and her husband, William, are upset about the damage to their car, they are thanking all the people who stopped to help them after the theatre show.

Michelle said: “The people who stopped and helped were all amazing and although it has been upsetting and there are terrible people in the world, the people of Bolton who helped me on Saturday are amazing.

“My work colleagues have all been here to support me and it’s been really nice.”
