A BY-ELECTION has been called for next month following the death of Bolton Council leader of Cllr David Greenhalgh.
The election will be held on October 28.
Today Bolton's Conservative Group named their candidate.
Amy Cowan will be standing as the Conservative candidate for Bromley Cross.
Cllr Greenhalgh, ward councillor of Bromley Cross, died at the age of just 53 in July.
Ms Cowan said: "For many years I worked with David in the local community, as he supported Epic Egerton of which I am Chairman and various other community projects that we were both involved with.
"No one, including myself, could ever replace David but I will do my best to represent the people of Bromley Cross and Egerton if elected.
"What makes our area great is that we believe in community and always come together to support each other."
Cllr Greenhalgh had represented the ward since 2006 having served as shadow spokesman for adults’ services, deputy leader, and lead of the Conservative Group in 2013.
He finally leader of the council from 2019 up until his death in July 2021.
Ms Cowan meanwhile currently serves as chair of Epic Egerton, a committee which aims to improve Egerton Park and enhance community cohesion in the area.
The new councillor will join Cllr Nadim Muslim and Cllr Samantha Connor in representing the ward.
She said: "I can't wait to get out onto the doorstep so I can meet as many residents as possible."
