A BUSY road will be shut overnight for resurfacing work.

Cricketerss Way in Westhoughton will be repaired after complaints about potholes on the busy junction.

Ward councillor David Wilkinson has been calling for repairs to the road for sometimes.

Now work will be carried out on October 5.

Cllr Wilkinson said: "For months and months I’ve been asking Bolton Council to deal with the potholes at the junction with Sainsburys.

“Everytime we’ve asked we’ve been told there’s nothing wrong with it, it’s ok. Well anybody who drives over the junction knows full well it isn’t ok.

“We had repairs done in 2019 but they broke up. We had replies from Bolton council that it was within tolerances but anyone who has driven over this section knows it is terrible and that it was only going to get worse.

“It seems it’s a case of wait till it’s so bad the council then has to do something. The junction has thousands of vehicles going through it every day.

“I’m glad to say after our latest efforts with Bolton Council, Bolton Highways have now come back and said they will resurface the junction and the work will be done on October 5, overnight.”

A spokesperson from Bolton Council said: “It is normal for roads to deteriorate over time because of general wear and tear.

“Most defects are purely cosmetic and do not pose a serious safety risk.

“The council has a limited budget for highways maintenance and this has to be utilised in the best way possible.”

There are also a number of other pothole and manhole repairs taking place around the borough.

Albert Road will be closed on September 30 from 9:30am until 3pm, meaning all traffic will be prohibited from proceeding on the road from Chorley New Road to Carlton Road to enable manhole repair works to take place.

Alternate routes for traffic will be New Hall Lane and Somerdale Avenue.

The council are advising residents to put their waste and recycling bins at the nearest accessible point if they are due to be collected so that they are not missed.

Other roads closed for manhole repairs are Chancery Lane on October 4 and Kingsgate October 4 -17 at varied times.
