A Bolton MP has again expressed concerns over 'vaccine passports' in England after they were introduced after a vote in Wales.

Chris Green, MP for Bolton West and Atherton, part of the 'Covid recovery group' at Parliament, spoke to Julia Hartley-Brewer on TalkRadio this morning after the Welsh parliament voted by 28 to 27 introduce compulsory Covid passes for nightclubs and sports events on Tuesday (October 5).

Mr Green voiced his concerns during the Conservative party conference in Manchester, saying Covid passes caused 'huge civil liberties problems'.

He said: "It’s extraordinary — this is civil liberties — people say 'we’re not going to have these passes, all it is a threat, make sure you get your vaccine then we don’t need to impose this threat'.

“We’ve seen Scotland, now Wales, England will soon no doubt follow and Northern Ireland will each have their own ID cards. What perfect was to split the union, four nations having their own identities cemented with ID cards.

“(It causes) Huge civil liberties problems, and this got through (in Wales) because someone couldn’t vote on Zoom. The Welsh need to have an inquiry into this.

“If we have this incremental change in terms of our civil liberties, the way the people relate to the state, and it happens by accident, that’s really problematic. And it’s understandable why people at home would be deeply concerned about what could happen in England.”

He added: "The idea that on day one it’s going to be limited to nightclubs and huge events and venues, but a few weeks down the road there’ll be a blip in the figures or a variant of concern, the idea that it (ID cards) won’t be moved onto other areas and I think it’ll marry up very effectively with the mandatory vaccine agenda that’s also being pushed.”
