Give us some history about the pub:

The pub is a very historic building dating back to 1899 and before. It has a very beautiful stained glass window at the front, architectural frontage with the initials MB meaning Manchester Brewery who did own it.

The pub has lots of history and is said to be haunted. It’s a hidden gem with a lovely beer garden to the rear, and recently we have extended the car park to additional seating.

Is food served? If so what’s on the menu?

We have just launched a menu on October 4 serving proper chips, and proper pies including our special Billy’s pie (in memory of my father who made the best pies ever and a secret recipe) steak and Theakstons old peculiar.

Our aim is to serve good local produce from local suppliers. (No ping ping ding) at a reasonable, affordable price. The menu is traditional including homemade soups, stews, specials. Cider battered fish. Sunday roasts with fresh seasonal veg choice of three meats and homemade yorkies. I have just applied for an earlier licence to serve breakfasts.

Is there a beer garden?

Yes where we also have a nutty wagon serving chicken kebabs, hot dogs, burgers Saturday and Sunday night.

Do you have any darts/snooker/pool teams?

Yes, two darts teams, two pool teams and a domino team.

Most popular drink served is:

Larger, Cider, bitters including cask ales. Cocktails, pitchers, flavoured gin and vodka. Shot bar.

Most memorable moment at the pub:

When the restrictions lifted and people could come to the bar and we had some normality and the good old pub was brought back to life.

Do you have an entertainment line-up?

Yes. We have monthly theme/ fancy dress nights recently held an 80s night which was a success. Halloween weekend fancy dress Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Halloween party for the children.

with a children’s entertainer. Bommy night with free black peas. Lest we forget Remembrance Sunday, 1940’s theme where all the staff will be dressed in 1940’s outfits. Peaky Blinders Theme/ Fancy dress night November 27. December we plan to have a Santa’s grotto/ Christmas market theme mulled wine, hot chocolate, coffee with liqueurs, bratwurst sausages served from the burger van at the back.

Have you faced any challenges within the industry?

Yes the uncertainty of whether we was going to go into another lockdown.

The best thing about running a pub is...

Everything I just love the hospitality sector, meeting and greeting people.

The worst thing about running a pub is...

Nothing I just love all of it I take the rough with the smooth.

The perfect hangover cure is...

Have another beer (what makes you bad makes you better) or the good old packet of salted crisps and a can of coke.
