A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was found dead in Tyldesley.

Police were called to Charles Street last month and Thomas Williamson, aged 30, was pronounced dead at the scene after being found with multiple stab wounds.

An investigation was launched to establish the circumstances.

And now police have arrested a 17-year-old boy in Wigan.

He was picked up by GMP’s tactical vehicle interception unit.

He has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody for questioning.

Police previously arrested a 15-year-old on suspicion of assisting an offender.

He has since been released under investigation.

Police are appealing for members of the public to come forward.

Det Insp Nicola McCulloch, from GMP’s major incident team, said they had made positive steps.

She said: “This has been a complex investigation and our detectives have been conducting an inordinate amount of work behind the scenes to ensure we identify and locate those responsible for Thomas’ death.

“I’m pleased to confirm we have now made additional arrests in connection with this incident and one male remains in custody for questioning.

“Although this is another positive step forward for the investigation we are still encouraging anyone who may have information to get in touch with us as a matter of urgency.”
