More patients visited A&E at Bolton Hospital last month, with demand rising above the levels seen over the same period last year.

NHS England figures show 11,563 patients visited A&E at the Royal Bolton Hospital in September.

That was a rise of 6 per cent on the 10,882 visits recorded during August, and 27 per cent more than the 9,113 patients seen in September 2020.

Across England, A&E departments received 2.1 million visits last month.

That was an increase of 4 per cent compared to August, and 26 per cent more than the 1.7 million seen during September 2020.

Seventy one people had to wait more than 12 hours to be seen.
