The M6 Northbound is closed with severe delays and traffic queuing for more than 14 miles due to an accident.

A collision involving a car and a lorry occurred at 9:44am on the M6 between junctions 16 and 17, with two patients taken to hospital with injuries.

Emergency services state that a car overturned and came to rest on its side.

A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service said: "A 999 call was received at 09.38. We have taken two patients to hospital.

"A woman in her 60s, a passenger in the car, was seriously injured and the driver had minor injuries.

"One other walking wounded."

A spokesperson for Highways England North West said: "A collision involving a car and a lorry occurred at 9.44am this morning on the M6 between junctions 16 and 17. The car overturned and came to rest on its side.

"All emergency services are in attendance and an air ambulance has attended the scene.

"There are delays of two hours, and 14.8 miles of congestion. The road remains closed while police carry out an investigation."

North West Motorway Police and Cheshire Police are advising people to stay away from the area as accident investigation are on the scene and they are also appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to get in touch.

An update from Inrix, at 2:05pm, stated there is congestion to nearly Stafford Services heading Northbound. Southbound also back to J18 (Middlewich / Holmes Chapel). There is surrounded delays through Sandbach, Arclid, Talke, Rode Heath and the A41 towards Whitchurch as traffic avoids the motorway.

The motorway was blocked since around 10:00, where by 12:40 mostly all trapped traffic has been turned around.
