POLICE have released images of a man they want to talk to after customers using a supermarket cashpoint reported having money stolen.

Officers say in one instance a victim had money stolen while using the ATM outside Morrisons Supermarket on Chorley Old Road.

The maximum amount of cash allowed to be withdrawn was stolen.

The store has been informed about the thefts and people are being urged to be vigilant.

A spokesman for GMP Bolton South said: "On September 30, at around 2pm, a male is reported to have stolen money from victims using the ATM outside Morrison's, mill store, Chorley Old Road.

"Victims using the ATM are approached by a man. He appears helpful, standing very close and distracting them by giving lots of explanation and using both hands to touch/point across them to areas around the ATM.

"The man uses the victim's card and PIN to withdraw their maximum amount without their knowledge. He then hands the card back to the victim with them unaware of the money stolen."

He added: "The store in this instance has been made aware of this male, however it is thought that the male might try this again at other ATMs and police wish to remind members of the public to be vigilant and never show anyone your PIN. The investigation is still ongoing.

"If you believe you can identify the male pictured, please contact the police quoting log 853-02102021."
