WANDERERS captain Antoni Sarcevic has made a shock move to non-league Stockport County.

With no transfer restrictions in the Conference, Sarcevic is able to join the Hatters immediately.

The midfielder has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal at Edgeley Park.

“He did a terrific job to help us secure promotion and then gain an early foothold in League One this time around,” Bolton boss Ian Evatt told the club's website.

“This is a new challenge for him and we wish him every success in the future.

“We believe we still have excellent competition for places in the midfield area and this also allows us to look ahead and potentially strengthen the squad in January where we feel necessary if we can.”

Sarcevic joined the Whites from Plymouth in the summer of 2020 and was quickly given the captain’s armband.

The 29-year-old scored seven goals in 32 appearances last term as Evatt’s men won promotion from League Two.

He was left out of the starting XI against former club Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday night.

Ricardo Santos will now take over as captain as he returns from suspension for Saturday's clash with Gillingham.

And Evatt insists the defender is the right man for the job.

“Rico is a key player for us and is also extremely popular and well respected in the dressing room,” he added.

“Making him captain will give him even more responsibility and it’s another important step in his career with us.”

The club also confirmed that Eoin Doyle will remain as vice-captain.
