This photo from the archives is a poignant reminder of the price paid by so many Bolton families during the Second World War.
Taken in 1952 it shows what the Evening News described as ‘war orphans’ enjoying a free ride at Farnworth Fair. The treat had been organised by the Farnworth Missing and War Relatives’ Club and over 35 youngsters were the guests of the club.
The youngsters, many in their Sunday best, all look fairly serious on the photograph but hopefully they had a good time.
