PORTSMOUTH have been handed an injury boost ahead of Saturday’s League One clash with Wanderers.
Paul Downing and Liam Vincent are both nearing a return to full training following spells on the sidelines with hamstring and shin problems respectively.
However, Ellis Harrison is ruled out due to an ankle issue while Clark Robertson (hip) and Jayden Reid (knee) are still some way off a return to action.
“Paul Downing is back on the grass, which is a positive for us, and we’re hoping to have him available soon, while Ellis Harrison is probably another week behind,” manager Danny Cowley told the club’s website.
“Liam Vincent is also making some good progress. It’s been great to see him with the ball at his feet over the past few days.”
Cowley’s men sit 16th in the league table after picking up 16 points from their opening 14 matches in the third tier.
Pompey enter the game on the back of a 2-2 draw at Accrington Stanley thanks to Marcus Harness’ late strike.
Cowley is expecting a “tough challenge” and admits he is impressed by what Wanderers boss Ian Evatt has achieved since going into management.
He added: “Bolton are very well coached and will still have some momentum from what they achieved back in May.
“Ian Evatt is making football management look pretty easy, with two promotions in two campaigns for him.
“We have plenty of respect for them and it’s a tough challenge, but also a great opportunity for us to bring some energy and intensity to our performance.”
