AN online business event is being made available to people who want to start a business in Bolton.

The Rebel Business School event is available free of charge to participants, and will run live via Zoom on November 8-12, from 10am until 3pm.

The course will be led by serial entrepreneur Katie Coombes, who got involved with Rebel Business School through reaching out on social media.

She grew up in Crumpsall and now lives in Chorlton, and is passionate about making sure people know where to start.

She said she understands the past two years have been tough for a lot of people and some will be nervous about starting up, but that “they help people overcome these doubts and move forward”.

Katie added:”You don’t need money or even a business plan to start up.

“It’s about helping people take the action around setting up a business, and supporting them in doing something active around it if they’re feeling stuck, which can be scary.

“It’s not meant to be an exclusive club, which is why we want everyone to just give it a go. It’s fun and inspiring, it’s not covert.”

Housing association Bolton at Home and property firm Places for People have helped support the event through sponsorship and funding.

The course covers everything from sales and marketing, to launching websites and tax and legal tips.

Tony Cottam, the housing association's employment head, wanted to be a part of this after being disappointed with what was available already.

He said:“I couldn’t believe how old school the support was. This opportunity offers practical business advice on how to start a business and what resources are available for the 21st century.

“It gives you the tools and confidence to have a go and encourages people to stop putting things off.”
