A FORMER pub is set to be converted into a children’s nursery in Ramsbottom.

Ladybird Nursery currently operate at two other sites in the township but plans have been submitted to transfer operations from Buchanan Street and Carr Street into a single site at the former Fusilier pub on Bolton Road West.

At present there are 12 staff in total across the two sites, five of which are full -time, borough planners have been told.

The nursery looks after children up to four years of age.

Ladybird Nursery has an Ofsted rating of good and they are also signed up to Bury Council’s Golden Apple award scheme and are accredited with the Gold Award.

Documents lodged with Bury Council this week in support of the application say: “The intention behind this application is to combine these two sites into one, to enable a full and complete service to be offered from one location.

“The site comprises a former public with associated area of hardstanding. It is within the built up area of Ramsbottom and is predominantly residential in nature.

“The proposal seeks to change the use of the building. It does not require or involve any changes to the building itself externally.

“Internally it is proposed to divide the ground floor space into separate rooms for the age groups, with a two year old space, a baby room and ancillary office space.

“The first floor would be two open plan areas to allow flexible space for two to four-year-olds

“This proposal includes a 6ft black tall railing, positioned on top of the existing stone wall to the front right hand side of the building to provide a secure outside play space for the children.”

The plans, for the currently vacant building will be decided on by planners at Bury Council in the coming weeks.
