WANDERERS return to League One action on Friday night when they welcome struggling Crewe Alexandra to the UniBol (KO 8pm).

Ian Evatt’s men are without a win in their last five league matches and enter the game on the back of a 2-2 draw against Stockport County in the FA Cup.

Team news

Evatt says on-loan winger Xavier Amaechi “will be involved” after recovering from a fractured metatarsal.

The former Arsenal youngster is yet to make his competitive debut for the Whites after suffering the injury in a pre-season friendly against Preston.

Josh Sheehan is also available after recovering from a back injury, while Declan John could feature despite being forced off at half time against Stockport.

Opposition lowdown

Crewe finished 12th in League One last season under David Artell, who took charge back in January 2017.

The Railwaymen sit bottom of the league table, having won just one of their 16 matches so far this season.

Artell’s men enter the game on the back of a 3-0 win against Wolves Under-21s on Tuesday night in the Papa John’s Trophy.

Head-to-head

  • Wanderers have faced Crewe 18 times in their history, with a record of eight wins, five draws and five defeats
  • Their last win in the fixture came in August 2017 when Adam Armstrong and Derik Osede were on target in a 2-1 victory at Gresty Road

Last meeting

Crewe edged a five-goal thriller when the sides last met at the UniBol following a 3-2 victory in the FA Cup first round.

Mikael Mandron opened the scoring on the half-hour mark but the Whites hit back through Nathan Delfouneso.

After the break, goals from Oliver Finney and Charlie Kirk gave the visitors a commanding lead but Delfouneso struck again with 12 minutes to go.
