A MAN was taken to hospital this morning after being assaulted in Whitefield.

Officers were called just after 7am this morning, November 20, to a report of a stabbing on Mersey Drive, Whitefield.

Emergency services attended and a man was taken to hospital with injuries that are not thought to be serious or life-threatening.

A police spokesman said: "A 21-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of assault.

"Officers are at the scene and a cordon is in place whilst enquiries are carried out. The cordon is due to be lifted shortly.

"The incident is believed to be isolated at this time."

Road closures were in place at the time between Calder Crescent and Roch Crescent.

CSI were also present at the scene.
