A murder investigation is continuing at pace following the death of a man during a disturbance in Manchester city centre last night.

Police arrived at a bar on Dantzic Street near Printworks at approximately 8pm last night after reports of a disturbance involving around 10 people.

A 60-year-old man, who was a passer-by and not involved in the initial disturbance, was assaulted and died at the scene, GMP confirmed.

A 21-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder.

He has been taken into custody, where he remains.

A cordon was put in place overnight but has since been removed.

Detectives are continuing to carry out a number of lines of enquiry.

Detective Inspector Mark Davis, from GMP's Major Incident Team, said: "This was a tragic incident where a man who wasn't involved in the disturbance has lost his life, leaving his family understandably devastated.

"The cordon has been removed and officers are at the scene carrying out enquiries but we're keen to speak to anyone who might have been in the area at the time as we believe a number of people were filming the incident and those videos may prove crucial to our investigation.
