A TOTTINGTON man died in a hit and run and the driver is yet to be detained by police, a court has heard.
An inquest into the death of Gavin Andrews opened at Rochdale Coroner’s Court.
Senior police coroner’s officer Paul Level confirmed Mr Andrews was 34 at the time of his death and lived in Wesley Court in Tottington.
The inquest heard the self employed labourer came out of a takeaway on Walmersley Road in Bury on November 9 this year and as he was heading across the road was hit by a car going at excessive speed.
Mr Andrews was pronounced dead at the scene and identified by his cousin.
Mr Lever confirmed police enquiry to trace the driver were “still ongoing.”
Coroner Catherine Mckenna said she was satisfied the circumstances of the death required a full opening.
A further review into this will take place in March next year.
She asked for police to provide a further update in relation to their enquiries then.
