A THUG who joined his brother in a savage attack on a man in his Horwich home has been convicted of injuring him.

Following a week-long trial at Bolton Crown Court a jury took just two hours to find 28-year-old Reece Lonsdale unanimously guilty of aggravated burglary and intentionally causing grievous bodily harm.

Lonsdale’s brother, 32-year-old Lucas Lonsdale has already pleaded guilty to committing the offences and a date has yet to be set for the brothers’ sentencing.

In the meantime Reece Lonsdale, of Kentmere Grove, Farnworth, was remanded in custody.

Recorder Andrew Long told him: “A custodial sentence of some length is inevitable in this case.”

The court had heard how Scott Wilson''s friend had a drug debt which he thought had been settled, but he was then informed it had been passed onto someone else.

Mr Wilson was contacted by Reece Lonsdale saying he owed £1,000 and messages were exchanged while the brothers were outside Mr Wilson's home in Beaumont Avenue.

Daniel Calder, prosecuting, told jurors: “Mr Wilson went downstairs and found two men inside his house. One went for him, a second male started hitting him with a closed fist and kicking him in the head.

"One male placed him in a choke hold shouting ‘Lucas do him’.”

Mr Wilson was struck with a bottle and then a golf club. before the brothers left the property.

CCTV captured a golf club being thrown out of a Ford Fiesta on nearby Longworth Road and Reece Lonsdale is said to have retrieved the club after the car pulled over.

When police visited Reece Lonsdale they found a charred golf club which Mr Wilson identified as the one taken from his home. Reece Lonsdale said he had been using it “as a poker.”

He claimed he had been working with his brother in Lowton on the day of the attack and denied being caught on CCTV picking up the club.

He also denied the phone which sent threatening messages was his and said he had lost his phone at work the day before.

Cell site analysis proved the phone was near Mr Wilson's home at the time of the attack.
