IAN Evatt has revealed Wanderers are searching for permanent transfers in the upcoming January transfer window but insists they have to be right for the club.

Evatt’s squad has been hit hard by a series of injuries in recent weeks and the Bolton boss admits they need to add more depth.

He admits it can be difficult to do business in the January window but praised chairman Sharon Brittan and the board for their support since he took charge at the UniBol.

“It will still be permanent transfers,” he said. “As I said before, Sharon and the board are magnificent and have never said no to anything I’ve asked for, not once.

“If I go to them and ask for things, I have no doubt that they would do it – they want what’s best for me and the football club.

“It’s a difficult window to sign in. We have to be strategic - we’re not just going to waste money.

“It has to be the right thing for the football club and we’re doing lots and lots of work to try and get the best people we can in the building.”

While plans are in place for January, Evatt insists it is vital to focus on the upcoming games as the Whites aim to climb the League One table, starting with a home fixture against Doncaster on Tuesday night.

He added: “We’ve got targets that we think will hugely improve us, targets that were probably out of our reach last summer.

“But as I said, that work is ongoing, that process is ongoing and there’s lots of conversations taking place.

“But it’s my job and the lads who are fit and healthy to do our best to get some results to keep us in a competitive position come January where we can strengthen and really kick on.”

The Bolton boss admits recent injuries have left him ruing his bad luck but is remaining focused on the bigger picture of what he is trying to achieve with the Whites.

“We are woefully short of bodies and a lot of it is down to injuries and these aren’t muscle injuries where you could adapt the training or it’s something to do with the training or workload,” he said.

“These are contact injuries that the majority have happened in a game with physical contact that can’t be avoided so I’ve not known a run like it, but we’ve been through really tough times before.

“We can’t feel too sorry for ourselves. We’re still midtable in League One.

“This time last year, it was a lot, lot worse than this, so for now it’s about us getting on with it, keeping our heads down, keep fighting and finding a way to get results.”
