DONCASTER pair Ben Close and Pontus Dahlberg could return for their League One clash with Wanderers on Tuesday night.

Close has been out of action for several weeks due to a hamstring problem, while Dahlberg missed Saturday’s draw with Lincoln through illness.

Manager Richie Wellens says Dahlberg is likely to feature against the Whites and is hopeful Close can also play a part at the UniBol.

“Pontus, we expect to be feeling well,” he told Doncaster Free Press.

“Ben Close will be having an injection on Monday so he will definitely be fit for Saturday but he’s 50/50 at the moment [for Tuesday].”

Wellens’ men sit 23rd in the league table following Saturday’s draw against Lincoln at the Keepmoat Stadium, having taken 13 points from their opening 17 matches.

The Doncaster boss admits his side’s recent injury struggles have frustrating but insist there are plenty of positives to take from their performance against the Imps.

“All we can ask for is the players to give us absolutely everything,” he added. “We worked on a gameplan and had to change it. We’re having to flip and change it all the time.

“The basics of football are run, tackle, fight, heart, match your opponent, spirit - I think all of them things we showed in abundance [against Lincoln].

“I thought the crowd was excellent in the last 25 minutes. They stuck by us and knew we were pushing for the goal.

“I’d like to think we deserved a goal but because we didn’t test the goalkeeper enough. A point was a fair result, against a good team as well.

"We looked like a team that was fighting and scrapping. We're getting a bad hand every week and we're just doing the very best what we can.”
