AN inquest has been opened into the death of a window cleaner who was admitted to the Royal Bolton Hospital with a swollen leg.

Bolton Coroners' Court heard how 48-year-old Francis Joseph Redshaw had a history of heroin use and on October 31 was taken to hospital after feeling unwell with what was believed to be deep vein thrombosis.

Despite treatment Mr Redshaw, of Laurel Court, Bolton, died on November 2 with a consultant physician concluding that the cause was due to a bleed into the brain as a result of septic blood clots and a heart infection.

Area coroner Prof Alan Walsh heard that Mr Redshaw's family have no concerns about his hospital treatment.

A full inquest is due to take place on January 27 next year.
