THE former treasurer of Mere Hall Bowling Club (Vets) has raised vital funds for Bolton Hospice.
Mere Hall Bowling Club in Halliwell was dissolved this year as it could no longer form a team of local veterans and support the fees needed for 2022.
Treasurer Jean Turton turned a negative into a positive and chose to clear the Mere Hall clubhouse to raise vital funds for Bolton Hospice, selling items through eBay and with the help of friends.
Through her effort as treasurer as the club drew to a close, an incredible £650 was raised which was donated to the local hospice in support of the care it provides to local people.
When asked why Bolton Hospice was chosen to benefit from the donation, Jean said: “Because it’s ours and it’s local.
“I already donate personally to other charitable organisations and wanted to keep it in the town and support local people who may need it.”
