AA MAN has been arrested after a man was allegedly raped in Bolton town centre.

The incident happened at around 3.30am on Sunday November 7, with police being called to reports of a rape on Back Mawdsley Street.

An investigation discovered that the victim was a 22-year-old man who had been approached by another man near Nelson Square, who walked with him to Back Mawdsley Street where he allegedly raped the victim.

A police comment at the time described the incident as “shocking and horrific”.

Following further investigations a 38-year-old man was arrested on November 22 on suspicion of rape. He has since been released on police bail while enquiries continue.

Detective Sergeant Dominic Beaver, of GMP’s Bolton division, said: “The victim continues to receive support from specialist officers following this shocking incident.

“While we have made an arrest, I would urge members of the public who may have been in the area at the time and noticed anything suspicious, to please contact police as soon as possible.”
