Trees across the borough have been uprooted after storm Arwen wreaked havoc in Bolton.

Trees have come down on Belmont Road due to the strong winds, and in one instance a tree came crashing down in Smithills Croft Road.

Council bosses said more than 30 trees were toppled in the high gusts - and teams are out dealing with th eissue to keep the 'town moving'.

Joanne Crompton from Smithills Croft Road, had a 40 foot tree at the back of her house.

During the storm yesterday evening, the tree uprooted from the ground causing damage to her van, her bar and hot tub and her neighbours gardens too.

"We have had a bit of a disaster really," said Joanne.

"Last night at about 11 to 11:30pm, the tree uprooted over three gardens and completely demolished the bottom of our gardens.

"That includes our £25,000 hot tub and bar and damage to my van and car.

"We have tried to cut up the tree, but we have no idea who to contact to remove it.

"We normally use our hot tub on Friday evenings and it's a lucky thing that we didn't use it."

Cllr Roger Hayes, Councillor for Smithills, said he has been in contact with Council Security and Response this morning to see if they can remove the tree.

He said: "I had a message from my wife letting me know what had happened, so I reported it onto the Council Security and Response at around 9am.

"The tree removal team are short staffed, but they are a very good team, so I'm shocked if they haven't done anything because they are normally really good."

The council has this morning said on social media, they are doing everything they can to remove fallen trees.
