THE hey-day of the country railway station is captured in this early-1960s photograph on the Bolton to Blackburn line.
We published an article in 1985 saying the same station was ‘reduced to an unmanned halt with a simple shelter for passengers’.
It added: “Railway traffic inspector Derek Hartley used to work in the station’s signal-box for many years until it closed.”
