A BRADSHAW man has uncovered some great photographs of memories of Bolton and surrounding areas throughout the years.

John Preston has got in touch with Looking Back asking for readers help in identifying the photographs.

He said: “The first I’m hoping for guidance on location.

“The B&W photo taken on a works shop floor.

“During a break in the action, my dad Moses Preston is on the right but unsure which Bolton Engineering Works is the location.

“The favourites are Ebro or John Booths in the 1950s and I am aware my dad worked at these locations.

“The London Scene is one of several slides of the 1953 Coronation.

“They had joined a tour party of Britain and Europe which included the event

“The street scene is of Westhoughton’s main street in 1953 [scene of the aerial photo last week]

“The photo of the lady in the hat is that of my Grannies next door neighbour Mrs Crippen.

“Now I remember being a little nervous of her, she told me off quite a few times.

“Looking back perhaps she didn’t appreciate my various ball games against the back walls.

“I understand her husband was involved in the building of the terraced houses on Bolton Road.

“In 1953 I was living in Carlton Avenue, Deane and a cub, [not sure about the footwear]

“I well remember my Aunt and Uncle presenting me with a Hopalong Cassidy outfit with a set of twin cap guns.

“In a real Hopalong look alike gun belt to match.

“I rode the rocking horse to many a gun battle in my imagination. Still like in the westerns.

There are Hornby Dublo Trains in the photo which I still have to this day, and still run well.

“Looking back into old photos in our family albums has produced many side tracks into the memory banks and a realisation that most occasions stick in the memory but sometimes names are illusive.”
