One casualty has been taken to hospital after a severe road traffic collision this morning and road closures have been put in place.

Emergency services were called to White Horse Grove, Westhoughton, at 5:13am where a BMW had crashed into a bungalow.

The crash was attended by Atherton and Hindley Fire and Rescue Service, the ambulance and the Technical Rescue Unit from Leigh.

Police are currently still at the scene of the crash and the BMW remains in place.

The car had crashed through a metal fence and through the brick wall and window at the front of the property.

A spokesman for Atherton Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to a RTC at 5:13am, where a car had crashed into a house.

"The accident was quite severe and the driver left the scene of the crash, the police are involved."

A resident who lives nearby said he woke up this morning to see the 'blue flashing lights' but 'didn't hear anything' when the collision took place.
