AGE UK Bolton has launched three new weekly classes.

The classes will take place every Tuesday at Harwood Methodist Church.

Each class lasts for 45 minutes and the classes on offer are Move it or Lose it at 10am, Pilates at 11am and Yoga at 12pm.

Niall Bradley, strength and balance team leader at Age UK Bolton, welcomed the introduction of the new classes.

He said: “It is important now more than ever to look after your health and well-being, this includes both physical and mental health.

"Our classes follow Covid guidelines and are in-line with Age UK Bolton’s values to ensure our clients are physically, socially and mentally active so that they can live independently for as long as possible.

“Our classes assist the NHS services, of which we have a great relationship with different health teams from social prescribers to physiotherapists and occupational therapists on keeping well and preventing hospital admissions.

“It is also an opportunity for people that have undergone physio to continue their hard work in a community setting with like-minded individuals.”

The idea of these new classes came about following an approach by a volunteer, who wanted to give back to the community using their qualifications and previous experience.

Mr Bradley said: “Enjoyment, a sense of involvement and being part of a community is important not just for participants but also our volunteers, we find that they get as much joy and benefits out of delivering the class as the participants taking part. It brings structure and routine to the week which I feel is important for our mental health.

"We are always on the lookout for new volunteers, especially physical activity volunteers as we try to rebuild our offering for physical activity classes in the community."

Anyone interested attending the new classes are advised to contact the Age UK Bolton team via their website or by email.
