A BOLTON play centre is holding a special event to help families in need this Christmas and also to show how festivities can help the environment.

Party & Play Funhouse in Westhoughton is asking people to bring at least one non-perishable food item in exchange for free admission on Thursday, December 9 from 12pm to 8pm.

This means that children can enjoy all the fun of the toddler and junior zones, the sensory studio and the go-kart area and outdoor play area while their parents or carers can help the work of Bolton’s Urban Outreach.

The charity deals with some of the borough’s neediest families all year round but is especially active in the run-up to Christmas.

At the same time, business owner Catalina Sastre has been busy creating decorations for Santa’s Sustainable Grotto in the play centre’s outdoor adventure area.

This features alternative festive decorations using recyclable items like a Christmas tree made out of cans. There will also be a mini Christmas market with stalls at the event.

“We were closed a long time during lockdown and since we’ve been back, I’ve thought carefully about what is really important in life,” explained Catalina.

“As a result, I wanted to do something for a practical charity like Urban Outreach and also to take the opportunity of showing how recycling can be fun. And how it can fit in into the seasonal festivities.

“We also want everyone who comes on December 9 to have a good time!”
