STAFF at a major Bolton distribution hub have helped a hospice to celebrate its half-century.

Employees at the Amazon fulfilment centre in Middlebrook have handed £1,200 to St Ann’s Hospice, which has a base in Little Hulton.

Hospice chiefs staged an exhibition of forget-me-not ornamental flowers in The Trafford Centre to celebrate St Ann’s 50th anniversary.

People across Greater Manchester got the chance to own a flower in the exhibition – these cuold be in memory of a loved one, or to mark an occasion or moment that they haven’t been able to take part in during the pandemic.

Staff at Amazon saw their donation being used to purchase a selection of the flowers and employees could then enter a draw to win an ornaments from the display.

Another gift, totalling £1,886 donation was also made by the fulfilment centre team to St Ann’s earlier this year.

John Strydom, centre site leader, said: “

“We have built a great relationship with St Ann’s Hospice over the last few years and the Amazon team in Bolton is pleased to help celebrate 50 years of the hospice.”

The hospice was nominated for support by Peter Langstreth, an employee there, who added: “St Ann’s Hospice is a charity very close to my heart and I’m so pleased Amazon could contribute to its 50th anniversary.”

Rachel McMillan, hospice chief executive, said: “As a charity, we need to fundraise £20,000 a day to keep our services running.

“We’re hugely grateful to local businesses who support St Ann’s Hospice, whether it’s through volunteering, employee fundraising or making a donation. It all makes a difference. Thank you to Amazon for the contribution and continued support.

“The forget-me-not is a symbol that’s really close to our hearts at St Ann’s. By buying a flower, people have the chance to dedicate it to their loved one, knowing that the money raised from these flowers is helping us to continue providing care to local people.”
