ACCRINGTON boss John Coleman wants his side to be more “inventive” ahead of Saturday’s clash with Wanderers at the Wham Stadium.

Coleman’s men enter the game on the back of a 2-0 defeat against Wimbledon on Tuesday night, with Luke McCormick and Ayoub Assal getting on the scoresheet.

The result leaves the Reds 13th in the League One table – just one point ahead of the Whites.

Coleman admits he isn’t satisfied with recent results and is hoping for an improved performance against Ian Evatt’s men.

“Football is a rollercoaster,” he told the club’s website. “Bolton have had some unbelievable highs this year, they have played some really good, attractive football and were among the top goalscorers for long periods of the season.

“Then sometimes they find a way to lose, that was the case on Tuesday. If you look at the game, there were chances for both teams.

“For us, Tuesday’s loss was a body blow, because you think you are turning a corner.

“Saying that, in this league there are 11 teams who would change places with us so coming into the Christmas period, if we can be in and around mid-table, you have to say we have done reasonably well.”

“We have been a little bit disappointed with our points return because we know we are better than what we have shown, and for a team who have conceded as many goals as we have done, we are not that bad defensively.

“Every time we make a mistake we get punished, other teams do it and don’t get punished. There might be a couple of changes in January but we have all got to work together.

“I would like us to be a more inventive and when we get the inventive players back, then you can judge us on that.”

Captain Seamus Conneely is an injury doubt for Saturday’s game after being forced off at half-time against Wimbledon.

However, Matt Butcher and Tommy Leigh are both back in training and could be involved against Wanderers.

David Morgan and Joe Pritchard are also getting closer to a return but are unlikely to feature at the weekend.

Meanwhile, star man Dion Charles - who scored 20 goals last season - hasn’t been included in a matchday squad since September due to an ongoing contract dispute.
