A COMMUNITY trust has presented new defibrillators to schools in Atherton.

The Atherton Community Trust was formed to raise funds to support local groups and projects which will enrich the lives of the community through music, art, culture and sport.

Over the past year they have donated £1,000 to the local food bank, and purchased defibrillators for schools.

This has been made possible through individual donations, supporters of Atherton Lottery and fundraising events organized by the Atherton Library Group, the annual Punchfest, and charity boxes placed throughout the town.

The trust needs funds to support the setting up of a much-needed Youth Zone, as well as other deserving causes.

The presentation was made at Dorset Road Community Centre by trust chair Norman Bradbury, with secretary Val Houghton, treasurer Alan Birtles and director Simon Yates.

The total cost of the defibrillators was £7,591, a life-saving investment for the children.
